How to get audited with the US Dept of Justice (DOJ)
The US Department of Justice has been investigating the US Marshals Service, which runs the FBI, for alleged abuse of power and for allegedly covering up child sex abuse claims, the New York Times reported Thursday.
The DOJ has also launched an inquiry into the FBI’s handling of the investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her tenure.
The Justice Department is investigating whether the Marshals have improperly withheld evidence from investigators and improperly used their position to obstruct justice, according to a report by the newspaper, which was obtained by the Times.
While the investigation into the Marshalls is focused on the 2016 election, the probe into Clinton is also examining the FBI and its former director, James Comey, as well as the Clinton Foundation.
The Times reported that the Justice Department was already investigating former FBI director Robert Mueller, the former head of the FBI when the probe was launched.
According to the Times, Comey has been under scrutiny for his handling of an investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, and is facing a lawsuit from the American Civil Liberties Union.
As part of the probe, the Times reported, the Justice’s Office of Professional Responsibility, which is part of DOJ, is looking into the mishandling of classified information and whether the agency is operating within the law, and whether it acted in a manner consistent with the Justice Dept’s independence.
In addition to the DOJ, the US Department Of Health and Human Services has also begun an investigation, according a report from Reuters.
